A lot of catching up to do !
I can't believe I've left it sooo long since my last posting, eeek a lot of catching up to do; way back in August at Rainham Marshes R.S.P.B reserve a special event was held to highlight the disappearing Hen Harriers from our moors, mainly by the persecution of the Grouse shooting fraternity, gamekeepers etc. Hen Harriers eat Grouse so they are hated by gamekeepers has they can reduce the numbers of grouse ( very very few ) So the gamekeeper shoot, illegally trap and poison them. The land owners can set up a Grouse driven shooting day's and charge hundreds of pounds to the 'shooters' so they can have fun slaughtering the birds as 'sport'.
A few high profile conservationists came to speak against Grouse driven shooting; those that gave excellent reasons why this so called sport should be banned were Chris Packham, Charlie Moores ( BAWC ) Mike Clarke ( RSPB CEO ) and Mark Avery.

Group meet up Rainham Marsh
Friday 22nd July an evening visit to Rainham Marsh. 'Birding in Essex ' (B.I.E) is a group I am a member of and it was one of our meet up's.Here are some of my photo's , not too bad for a beginner !
Started with the Comma Butterfly, a couple of Bearded Tits (Juveniles) and as the light began to fade a Barn Owl hunting (poor picture,to far away) and finishing the evening with a lovely sunset.
A lovely time meeting up with old friends and making new one's. Thanks to Howard Vaughan and staff at the R.S.P.B visitors centre for their late opening.
